Song Joong Ki’s Science Fiction Project “Space Sweepers” Premiere Rescheduled

Thanks to the ongoing pandemic another movie premiere has become a member of the ever growing list of reschedules. Korea’s first spaceship – movie “Space Sweepers” was scheduled to be released some time this summer, but has now been moved to a definite release on the 1st of October this year. Let’s hope it will be released that day, as I am highly excited for this project by director Jo Sung Hee who created (wrote and directed) the box office hit “A Werewolf Boy” with Song Joong Ki in the lead.

“Space Sweepers” is the newest mind child of Jo Sung Hee. Set in the year 2092, it tells the story of space junk ship “Victory”, lead by its Captain Jang (Kim Tae Ri) and her misfit crew. There is the always broke – but always in need of money – pilot Tae Ho (Song Joong Ki), Tiger Park (Jin Seon Kyu) who may look rough with his dreadlocks and his whole body tattoos but has a soft inside and the trash collecting robot ‘Eobdongi’ (voiced by Yoo Hae Jin). And apparently “Hobbit” alumni Richard Armitage is also going to star in this movie. He is for reasons unbeknownst to me not included on the naver page, but is supposedly going to play someone seriously rich. That’s a lot of information to go by. Check out the teaser below to enjoy all the action packed – awesomeness:

Sadly, there isn’t that much else on information yet for “Space Sweepers”. Still waiting for a full length trailer over here. But as for now I am full of hope that Korea’s first venture into the space opera themed movies is going to be a success. Apparently if the movie is going to be received well, other ventures in the “Space Sweepers” universe have been planned. One of them has already taken off: A webcomic has officially started releasing some time ago on Kakao. Should the movie be a success, a drama and game are supposed to follow as well.

I know I am excited, but what about you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
