Big news for Manga/ Anime fans! “The Promised Neverland” – popular horror – survival manga by Karui Shirai and Posuka Demizu – has been picked up for its own live action adaptation. The series is going to be released on Amazon Prime and produced in cooperation with Fox 21. The adaptation will be directed by “Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse” director and writer Rodney Rothman with “Heroes”‘s Masi Oka on the executive producing side. The script will be adapted by Meghan Malloy.

“The Promised Neverland” focuses on three characters: the cheerful and kind – hearted Emma, the sly Ray and the talented Norman. Nevermind that all three of them are also highly intelligent. The setting could not be more innocent – an orphanage surrounded by woods and fields. Here the kids of the orphanage grow up with each other like siblings, call the woman who takes care of them ‘Mama’ and all in all just enjoy their lifes happily together. But every time a child is adopted they never hear from them again – even though they always promise to write. But when little Conny forgets her beloved plush bunny, Emma and Norman decide to return it to her, but children are not allowed near the gate which leads to the outside world. This is one of the main rules and when they pass through the gate, they find out why and that everything they believed in was a lie.

If you have never heard of “The Promised Neverland” now is as good as a time as ever to check it out. Watch the trailer below for the anime or check out the mangas!

I am a bit concerned that Masi Oka is going to be working on this one. If you don’t know who Masi Oka is… he also produced the newest “Death Note” live – action movie….which is not an achievement in my books. He also is going to produce the English live action adaptation of “Attack on Titan” and is currently working on the adaptation of “Repeat” which has received a Japanese live action adaptation last year. So he sure keeps himself quite busy. Here is just to hoping that “The Promised Neverland” will not to follow down the same path as “Death Note”, as that was one underwhelming debacle.

What are your thoughts on this adaptation? Are you excited or worried? Let me know in the comments below.
