I couldn’t find a lot about this. There is no trailer yet and it’s only known that it’s going to air sometime in August. The only ones casted so far are Yoon Hyun Min who previously starred in OCN’s “Tunnel” and An Woo Yeon who had roles in “Circle: Two Worlds Connected” and “Strong Woman Do Bong Soo”. But their character assignments haven’t been released yet.
As soon as there is more information, I’ll post an update.
On July 29 “Tokyo Ghoul” officially premiered in Tokyo with actor Masataka Kubota, Nobuyuki Suzuki, Shunya Shiraishi, Hiyori Sakurada, Yo Oizumi, Kunio Murai, Kai Ogasawara and director Kentaro Hagiwara taking the stage and greeting the public for on the day of the launch. A quiz was played after the greeting and the group was split into two teams. Ghouls (Kubota, Shiraishi, Sakurada, Murai) and humans (Suzuki, Oizumi, Ogasawara, director Hagiwara), though Kubota made a joke about being half-half though as he played the protagonist Kaneki, a human – ghoul hybrid.
Kubota made the audience laugh with, “It’s okay for me to be with them (the Ghoul team)right?” The winning team would be able to gift 17 present coasters to visitors of the event. Oizumi, who acted as MC, confirmed that those 17 present coasters are rare items which one can not easily get, Oizumi said “Is there anything they cannot get?!” and excited the venue with his Tsukkomi.
Both teams answered the first two questions correctly. The third question seemed to be too difficult for both teams, as none of them answered correctly. The last question was: “What is the name of Mado’s wife?” Oizumi who played Mado joked and was part of man team joked with them “I do not remember. I fast – forwarded until it’s my scene, ‘s the only thing I’m interested in.” However, Oizumi was worried that “only my wife’s name is going to be remembered (laugh)”, and holds his head as if troubled. As a fan of the original, Ogasawara was able to answer correctly and the human team won the quiz.
Another highlight of the event was the presentation of the portrays of the cast drawn by Ishida Sui, the mangaka of the original, himself. Kubota already previously received his portray, said that it is now in his apartment. The rest of the cast was moved by the portrays they received. Nobuyuki Suzuki was deeply impressed with his drawing and exclaimed: “I think mine is the best! (laughs)”.
On the 29th of July, it was announced that the premiere date for the movie “Laughing Under the Clouds”, with actor Sota Fukushi as lead, was changed from February to March 21, 2018. Alongside the announcement, a first look at the movie was granted.
The movie is based on a manga series with a cumulative total of 1.2 million copies issued. From the beginning of its publication in 2011, the manga attracted enthusiastic female fans in their teens and tweens who were drawn in by the attractive characters. An anime was produced in 2014 with a variety of other media following in 2015, which has led to a steady rise in the popularity of the manga.
The story is set in the Meiji Period in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. The Kumo brothers, led by the oldest Tenka Kumo (Sota Fukoshi) escort dangerous criminals to their final resting place. The prison in Lake Biwa. Tenka is the 14th head of the Kumo shrine after his parents were killed. His weapon of choice is a simple fan. With this, he and his brothers Soramaru (Yuma Nakayama) and Chutaro (Kirato Wakayama) fight together to keep the country safe.
On the 26th of July the movie premiere of “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable” was held in Tokyo. The movie is an adaptation of the popular manga by Hirohiko Araki. The official launch will be on the 4th of August Japan wide. The event was attended by Kento Yamazaki, Ryonosuke Kamiki, Nana Komatsu, Masaki Okada, Mackenyu Arata, Takayuki Yamada, Yusuke Iseya and director Takashi Miike.
Hirohiko Araki the mangaka of the popular manga recorded a video message for the event. “I think that many people feel uneasy towards the movie, but I’m sure that the finished product will exceed expectations. The way the characters dominate the movie screen is overwhelming. That’s because the cast is truly fantastic,” he said in regards to the concerned fans of the original. About Kento Yamazaki who played the male lead Josuke “JoJo” Higashikata, he said: “The way Yamazaki played JoJo really pulled the whole work together.”
Actor Yamazaki himself said that “I honestly love JoJo, so I’m truly pleased that Mr. Araki, the creator, is satisfied with my work. I’m really happy thank you very much,” he said, expressing his gratitude.
The cast also shared a couple of memories about shooting in Sitges, Spain. Yamazaki told the audience that as he was the entire month of their shooting in Spain he has a lot of fond memories. One of them being invited by Yusuke Iseya and Takayuki Yamada to a restaurant where he ate a 500-gram steak while looking at the ocean. Yusuke Iseya said that the townscape of Sitges reminded him of Atami and the town had an enjoyable atmosphere with street music echoing through the streets. He also revealed that Yamazaki “When he heard the music, he started to dance. It looked like fun.” Yamazaki added that it was “Due to the openness of Spain and by borrowing the strength of Sake. It was fun.”
Ryonosuke Kamiki also stayed in Sitges for a month. As his shooting schedule was quite flexible, he had a lot of free time. “I had a lot of free days, so I shopped, I watched a football game and I went sightseeing. Every time a new cast member arrived, I took them to Barcelona for sightseeing.”
Masaki Okada and Mackenyu Arata portray the Nijimura brothers in the movie, who are JoJo’s opponents. At the presentation of the cast last year, in order to impersonate his role as little brother perfectly, he wanted to get closer to Okada to be able to say that he loves him even before the shooting starts. Now after the movie is finished he said that “‘My brother’ is the only one I use familiar speech with. The distance between us is shorter.” (Ivy: This means that they’ve dropped the honorifics and refer to each other as family members or close friends.)
The popular manga is split into 8 different storylines. This movie will concentrate on part 4. In this storyline, the focus is on Josuke “JoJo” Higashita who lives in the town of Morioh and is a ‘Stand’ user (super power). His power is called ‘Crazy Diamond’ which can restore broken things and heal wounds. After the mystical Arrow and Bow arrive in Morioh, JoJo and his friends are pulled into a fight against other ‘Stand’ user. The movie will be distributed worldwide and should it be successful, sequels are planned.
Personally, I think it looks quite good. But judging a movie by stills and trailers can always backfire, so I’ll form my opinion after seeing it. But the cast seems quite close and that’s in my opinion always a good sign for a movie. What do you think, will you give this adaptation to the big screen a chance? Or are you going to ignore it? Let me know in the comments below.
